What marriage therapy is

Working through distress, together

Two armchairs and a low wooden table with candles in a softly lit room

Marriage therapy helps couples acknowledge and work through distress to improve their relationship. It's usually short term, and the length depends on how much distress you're facing.

As a systems therapist, I look for the root causes of the problems in your relationship, not just the symptoms. Therapy works best with both partners present, and if one partner isn't ready, we can talk about individual work.

Marriage therapy can help you:

  • Rebuild your marriage after distress or infidelity
  • Fall back in love, and stay in love, long after therapy ends
  • Make a clear, informed decision about your future

What we work on

Seven reasons couples seek marriage counseling

We set your goals together at the first appointment. These are some of the most common reasons couples come in.

  • Negative communication

When most conversations turn critical, defensive or cold.

  • Infidelity

When one partner has had an affair, or one or both of you are considering one.

  • Growing apart

When you seem to be just occupying the same space.

  • Unresolved differences

When you don't know how to resolve your differences, or one partner acts out on negative feelings.

  • Thinking about separation

When separation seems like the only answer, or you're staying together only for the children.

  • Christian & premarital

Christian marital and premarital counseling for couples who want faith to be part of it.
